The Intergenerational Podcast

Sharing Stories Between the Wise Ones and the Wee Ones

“Creating bonds with the children through the sharing of story and tale.”

This simple intention was at the heart of an intergenerational podcast project led by artist Ruth Le Gear, supported by the Community Foundation for Ireland, and created in collaboration with the Cranmore Women’s Group and the children of the Sligo Children’s Community Garden.

The project brought together two beloved communities — the “wise ones” from the Cranmore Women’s Group and the “wee ones” of the garden — to share stories rooted in nature, growing, and seasonal rhythms. Through conversations, laughter, and gentle storytelling, knowledge was passed down and relationships were formed, nurturing a sense of continuity, care, and connection between generations.

These recordings became a living archive — capturing tales of childhood, garden lore, personal memories, and practical wisdom. The process was as valuable as the outcome: a space of mutual listening and respect, where children were invited to ask questions, reflect, and simply be present with those who have walked before them.

This podcast project is a celebration of intergenerational learning, community voice, and the quiet power of storytelling. It honours the unique wisdom carried by older generations and their generous sharing of it with the next.
